Explanation of Species Accounts
Species accounts in the main body of this book cover all records submitted for CBRC review through 31 December 2003 and include all bird species for which at least one record has been reviewed by the CBRC. Especially notable records from the period 1 January 2004–31 December 2006, including four first state records and two more that are pending Committee review, are treated in Appendix H. This appendix also includes an account for the Green Violet-ear, a species recently accepted onto the Main List after the CBRC re-reviewed a record from 1977. Each species account consists of a heading followed by a narrative and, typically, a table of records.
As described in the introduction to Table C on page 12, this book’s species accounts follow a sequence consistent with the seventh edition of the American Ornithologists’ Union Check-List of North American Birds, as amended in the 42nd through 46th Supplements (AOU 1998, 2000; Banks et al. 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005). We were unable to accommodate several changes to the taxonomic order specified in the 47th Supplement (Banks 2006)but have adopted its nomenclature throughout.
